What’s The Point?

The point is that “point” is good example of a number of words in the English language whose meaning depends on the “context” in which it is used.  For example, points defined by mathematical xy coordinates have absolutely nothing to do with its meaning in the first sentence of this paragraph.  In a mathematical context, point defines a numerical value.  In the “first sentence” case, point has a completely different meaning.

The picture illustrates another example of the contextual definition of a point.  I’ll leave it up to the reader to determine what that definition is.
