Pop-Pop and Ross share the same birthday – 72 hours prior to the Ides of March
The groundhog was proved right again this year. We’ve had days this month when the temperature has been near 30℉ and days when it has been near 80℉. The Cherry Blossoms have survived these temperature swings and are now in full bloom.
Our hi-tech water dispenser has been replaced by a hand-operated mechanical pump that uses air pressure to dispense the water. It’s not pretty…but it gets the job done and does not have recurring costs. It’s a $20.00 one and done investment!

Although there is no snow I see, six more weeks of Winter it is going to be!
The weather here continues to suffer from an identity crisis…one day it’s winter, the next it is spring…or even summer! The high temperature here today was 77o. We did have the first snow of the winter this month. But it was only seen by early-risers — all traces of it were gone well before noon.
Mom and a couple of her friends are in Sarasota, FL for a few days. While there they plan, among other things, to go to the Opera. The son of one of her friends is in the opera company.
At the same time, Owen and friends were exploring the highways, byways and the night sky of Iceland.
And while they were gone, the stairs, cardboard boxes and chairs were protected by the guard dogs.
We have some bad news to report this month. The “Round House,” site of the original Reinhardt settlement in Carroll Township, Washington County, PA has been severely damaged by a fire. Although it has been a number of years since the Reinhardt clan moved on to their present estate, fond memories of the many alcohol-related events that took place at the Round House will live on.
Ross and Owen’s Monthly News begins its 26th year this month. We’ve come a long way since our first edition. Our early stuff looks quite primitive when compared to what we produce today. But, so was the Internet and that thing called the World Wide Web…or least that’s what Pop-Pop, who says he has “Been There, Done That” tells us!
Mom’s Pyrex Collection has “Grown Like Topsy” during the past year. There’s a family connection to Pyrex, as our Granny Reinhardt was born and raised in “Pyrex, PA”.
The 11th of January is Cosmo’s “Gotcha Date.” That’s the day back in 2020 that Mom and Dad brought two-month old Cosmo home from the Piney Mountain Kennel in Appomattox, VA.
Bet at first glance you think this is a Christmas Tree that is way past its expiration date. Well, it’s not! It’s a “Seasonal Tree.” Like the decorations on the fireplace mantle and other places around the house, it is meant to celebrate the season (Winter!) and seasonal holidays yet to come.
There’s been no snow here to date. But, we have had a number of “Three Dog Nights.” On such nights Cosmo, Winnie and Toby do their duty, which is to nag Pop-Pop to turn on the space heater! They wish they wouldn’t have to nag Pop-Pop about this so much as it cuts into their “Begging Time!”
