July 2022

Happy Birthday to Dan, Allyson, Terry, and the USA!!

This Month’s News…

Two very important birthdays this month: The Good Old USA and Dad!  The USA was 246 years old.  Dad was a year older than he was at this time last year.

A visit from the Dryer Vent Wizard led to a major repair rather than routine vent cleaning. A break in the vent hose caused lint to be blown into the ceiling space above the dryer rather than through the pipe that led to the outside vent opening.

The Blackberry Patch is producing yet another bumper crop this year.

Other news this month:

  • Owen is now gainfully employed. He started his new job at Verizon a few weeks ago.
  • Mom and Dad paid a visit to the Museum of the Bible earlier this month.
  • Mom’s cousin Meredith and her family are back in the USA after three years in the UK.
  • Pool Maintenance – Caulking around the pool was replaced and crumbling mortar around a number of the decorative slates was replaced.

That’s all the news that’s fit print this month.  Enjoy the pictures.

Happy Birthday Ralph, Mark, Susan, Jonalyn, and Svetlana

This Month’s News…

Last month’s “rumor” that Dad might be ending his yearly donations to one of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s many Institutions of Higher Learning has turned out to be true. Owen now has a BS in Information Science with a Minor in Business Administration.

We have another piece of news from last month that occurred after we went to press. The Loudoun County Republican Committee named Mom the “Volunteer of the Month” for May 2022.

Mom and Dad celebrated their new “almost empty-nest” status with a day trip to Harpers Ferry, WV. They also stopped by one of their favorite wineries.

Cosmo had a landslide win in this month’s defurminator contest. Winnie was a distant second.

Pop-Pop’s PCs and printers located in the basement had a long-standing issue…random loss of connectivity to FISHNET, the household WiFi network. He finally got tired of coping with this PITA issue, spent a few dollars and installed a separate Wireless Mesh Network (hbrnet) to provide wireless networking services in the basement. Problem Solved!!

That’s it for this month, enjoy the pictures.

May 2022

Happy Birthday to Lucy, Rosemary, Fred, Barb, Meredith, and Jason

This Month’s News…

Mom, Dad and Pop-Pop spent Mother’s Day Weekend visiting Ross, Hannah and Aunt Janet in Morgantown, WV. On Sunday afternoon they took a ride up the Mon-Fayette Expressway to Carroll Township, PA to visit with Uncle Brian, Aunt Rosemary, Butch, Chris, Gina, and Julia.

It was then back to Morgantown for one more night in the Airbnb before hitting the road to home on Monday. During the trip home, they stopped in Berkeley Springs, WV to do a bit of antiquing.

While in Morgantown, some quality time was spent on Saturday night at Gene’s Beer Garden with Pat and Jim Bob — Pop-Pop’s friends since back in the JITH days. They also spent some time sampling the fine beverages and food at Mario’s Fishbowl and Bacon, Bourbon and Beer.

Dad and Owen opened the pool this month. Sounds simple, but requires a lot of effort just to get the pool cover off and get the filter system up and running. And then there’s the periodic maintenance needed to ensure the pH and chlorine levels are sufficient, keeping the pool clear of dirt and other debris, and running the pool vacuum (AKA the “Pool Monster”).

May 8th was Happy “Gotcha Day” to Winnie! Three years ago we found a cute little dog named Shortcake on PetFinder. We adopted her and changed her name to Winnie. She’s 25% Pekingese, 12.5% Collie, 12.5% Boston Terrier, 12.5% Miniature Poodle, and a 37.5% Mix of lots of other breeds with an under-bite to beat all under-bites. Fierce rabbit hunter, sneaky runner, and still queen of our yard. We ❤️ our Winnie.

Rumor has it that Dad may be ending his yearly donations to one of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s many Institutions of Higher Learning. We are currently working to confirm that this is indeed the case and not just another instance of “Fake News.” We hope have more to report on this issue in next month’s edition of the news.

May is National Barbecue and Hamburger Month.  In additon to the more familar Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, there are a number of other “Holidays” during the month of May.

That’s all the news that’s fit to print for this month.  Don’t forget to buy a Poppy on Memorial Day!
