Happy Birthday to Bethany and Sarah Jane
The First of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year. Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. — Mark Twain
This Month’s News…
We replaced our old propane fired grill with a new wood-fired grill this month. The new grill is one if those “things” in the Internet of Things.” it is connected to our household Wi-Fi network and is managed by an App residing on mobile devices, i.e., cell phones.
Mom & Dad spent Easter weekend in Newport News. They were visiting Owen, who will earn his BS in Information Science from CNU next month.
Mom & Dad are on their annual “End of Tax Season” getaway this week. The Great Smoky Mountains are this year’s destination. They are staying in Sevierville, TN, which, among other things, is the birthplace of Dolly Parton. they also wandered down the road to Pigeon Ford, TN, the home of Dollywood. (P.S. The dogs wanted to go too, but had to stay home to babysit Pop-Pop!)
Pop-Pop said he has been in many Dive Bars over the years. We asked him which one was his favorite and he said these places were:
- Gene’s Beer Garden in Morgantown, West Virginia – It’s a vanishing breed…a neighborhood bar!
- Fortune of War Hotel, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia – the place to be on ANZAC Day!
- Old House At Home Pub, Newnham Green, Hook, Hampshire, United Kingdom – Bangers and Mash
- Vienna Inn, Vienna, Virginia – cold beer and chili dogs
- Baker’s Pub, North Charleroi, Pennsylvania – back in the old days, it was the place to go for a “Bucket of Rocks.”
- Hunter’s Lodge, Fairfax, Virginia – a Dance Hall Dive
- Unknown, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts – he doesn’t remember the name of this bar, but it was a favorite of USAF enlisted personnel stationed at Otis AFB…and no doubt the record holder for the juke box playing “I Fall to Pieces” by Patsy Cline.
In addition to Fool’s Day, April has a few more notable days:
