Ross and Owen

March 2016

Happy Birthday to Ross, Pop-Pop, Gina, Jill in Florida, Ryan in China, and Pop-Pop’s friend Pat in Morgantown!

Sigma Phi DeltaFrat Boy (aka Ross) came home for Spring Break the week before Easter.  Most of the schools his old high school friends are attending had their Spring Breaks earlier this month, so he actually spent a good bit of time at home.  WVU classes resumed on Easter Monday, so Mom and Dad had to haul him back to Morgantown on Easter Sunday.  But not to worry, we had our traditional Easter Dinner on “Easter Eve.”

Owen’s THS Swim Team had their end-of-season banquet earlier this month.  He was quite surprised to get the annual “Coaches Award” in addition to all the swag he gathered at the District, Regional and State Championship Meets.

Owen also completed lifeguard Training and Certification this month in hopes of getting a job at one of the local pools this summer.  He is determined, however, to not let this interfere with his overarching objective of becoming a 32nd Degree Game Master.

February 2016

Happy Birthday to Owen

4th Place finish, North 5A RegionalsThe Tuscarora High School Swim Team participated in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) 5A Northern Regional Swim Meet on the fourth of February.  The meet was held at the Christianburg Aquatic Center in Christianburg, Virgina, which is about a four hour ride from here in Leesburg. Why the North Regionals were held in the far Southwest corner of the commonwealth remains a mystery.  But all turned out well in the end since the Varsity Relay Team, which includes Owen, had times that were good enough to be invited to the VHSL 5A Swim and Dive Championships at George Mason University’s Jim McKay Natatorium, which is 30 miles or so from Leesburg.

THS Swim Relay Team, VHSL Championships at GMU's Jim McKay Natatorium. At the State Championships on February 19th, the THS Swim Team finished in 11th place overall.  The Relay Team finished in 7th place in the 400 and 11th place in the 200.

WVU Engineering ProjectRoss was on a team of WVU engineering students who were given the task of building a structure out of one sheet of paper and then determining the maximum load it would support.  To find out what the load capacity was, take a look at this Video.

Looks like Ross is taking a literal interpretation of this “Mountaineer” stuff.  He went hiking in Cooper’s Rock State Forest this month!
