May 2016

Happy Birthday to Lucy, Rosemary, Fred, Meredith, and Jason

May was much cooler than average and there was an abundance of rain, but the May Flowers managed to weather the storm.  The weather finally got back to normal the week before Memorial Day.

Stuff worth noting this month includes:

  • Ross completed his freshman year at WVU
  • Owen got a job as a lifeguard at a local pool
  • Mom’s cousin Meredith and her family made a visit to her great-great grandfather Emil S. Reinhardt’s family residence in Buffalo, NY.  The house was built in 1920.  The Reinhardt family was still living there during the 1940 US Census.
  • Pop-Pop and his friend Pat from Morgantown, WV went to their friend Ron’s Daughter’s wedding.
  • The Pittsburgh Penguins advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals!

April 2016

Happy Birthday to
Bethany and Sarah Jane

The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year. Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. — Mark Twain

Punxsutawney Phil blew it this year.  The April Showers never showed up and Weather claimed it never got Phil’s email requesting that it raise the Temperature a few degrees on or about 15 April.

Our resident interpreter Owen was inducted into the Spanish National Honor Society this month.  Now that he has achieved this honor, his next long-term goal is to be invited to join the National History Honor Society.

Ross had to make a quick trip home this month to interview for a summer job.  On their way to Morgantown, WV to pick him up, Mom and Dad took a side trip to Pittsburgh, PA where they went to the Heinz History Center, took a ride on the Duquesne Incline, went to Saint Anthony Chapel to see its world-famous collection of relics, and last, but certainly not least, stopped in the Strip at Primante Brothers for lunch.

The day after his “10 minute in-depth interview,” Dad and Pop-Pop took Ross back to Morgantown to finish up the last two weeks of his first year at WVU.  Before heading home, they had lunch at the Primanti Brothers Morgantown branch.  It’s a good thing Pop-Pop didn’t tell them he was born and raised in the Pitsburgh Area – he actually had them substitute onions for the standard french fries on his sandwich!

March 2016

Happy Birthday to Ross, Pop-Pop, Gina, Jill in Florida, Ryan in China, and Pop-Pop’s friend Pat in Morgantown!

Sigma Phi DeltaFrat Boy (aka Ross) came home for Spring Break the week before Easter.  Most of the schools his old high school friends are attending had their Spring Breaks earlier this month, so he actually spent a good bit of time at home.  WVU classes resumed on Easter Monday, so Mom and Dad had to haul him back to Morgantown on Easter Sunday.  But not to worry, we had our traditional Easter Dinner on “Easter Eve.”

Owen’s THS Swim Team had their end-of-season banquet earlier this month.  He was quite surprised to get the annual “Coaches Award” in addition to all the swag he gathered at the District, Regional and State Championship Meets.

Owen also completed lifeguard Training and Certification this month in hopes of getting a job at one of the local pools this summer.  He is determined, however, to not let this interfere with his overarching objective of becoming a 32nd Degree Game Master.
