October 2023

Happy Birthday Mom, Aunt Janet, Hannah, and Blake; Happy Anniversary to Brian and Svetlana

Double, double, toil and trouble; Fire burn and caldron bubble.

This Month’s News…

Ross asked Hannah a question earlier this month. She answered in the affirmative. As a result she is now in possession of a shiny new ring with an Emerald setting. Why an Emerald you ask? Well, might have something to do with this…she’s a Plant Pathologist!

The Oktoberfest celebrations continue. Mom and Dad went to at least one more local brewpub-sponsored Oktoberfest. They also procured a mini-keg of genuine German beer and held their own “Backyard Oktoberfest.”

Toby and Cosmo celebrated National Pug Day on October 15th. The Pugs invited Winnie to the festivities with one condition – she had to participate in all of the “Begging” activities!

Mom, Dad and friends spent a long weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. Some of the notable Nashville hangouts they hit were:

A good time was had by all, except for the ride home. They had to get up at “Zero-Dark-Thirty” to catch their flight back to Virginia.

Get it right this time! I’m supposed to jump you!

That’s it for this month…enjoy the pictures – and have a Happy Halloween!

August 2023

Happy Birthday to Uncle Barry, Uncle Bud in Florida and Aiden

This Month’s News…

August is our “Family Reunion Month.” The Reunion is held each year on the first Saturday of August. It takes place in a pavilion on the grounds of the Mon Valley YMCA in Carroll Township, PA. Pop-Pop says it has been held at the “Y” since 2003 or so. He said back in the day when he was a kid, it was held at the Monessen City Park. Follow this link to view more reunion pictures.

This is Mom’s latest addition to her Pyrex Collection. She got it from a guy in Charleroi, PA. The vast majority of Pyrex products were manufactured in the Corning Glass Plant located there. And there’s more to this story. He noticed Mom’s maiden name and asked her if she had relatives that once lived in Charleroi. Pop-Pop’s family did indeed live in Charleroi…in the same neighborhood as his family. Pop-Pop’s brothers are around the same age as he is and they were good friends back in the day! A real Six Degrees of Separation event!

Yet another watermelon failed the “Drop Test” this month. Maybe we should consider removing this test as a requirement for “Watermelon Certification.” Or at least changing the test drop height requirement.

That’s most of the news that’s fit to print. See you next month.

July 2023

Happy Birthday to Dan, Allyson, Nora, Terry, and the USA!!

This Month’s News…

Two very important birthdays this month: The Good Old USA and Dad!  The USA is 247 years old.  Dad is one year older than he was at this time last year.

The big news this month was the change in ownership of Washington’s NFL team. Fans are hoping the new owners will replace the unpopular “Commanders” name, rebuild the organization and bring back a winning tradition.

Both the zucchini plants and the blackberry patch are doing really great this year. They must really like all the sunny 90°+ days!

Owen recently learned what a clutch is and how to drive a car with a standard transmission…his “new” classic 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX. Ross spent a long weekend in Las Vegas at friend’s bachelor party.

Dad is back in the brewing business. He and a couple of friends made some home-brew a few weeks ago. It should be ready to consume in a month or so.

Yellow Pig Day was a prime time to have fun with numbers!

That’s most of the news that’s fit to print. See you next month.
