January 2009

Happy birthday to Granny and Uncle Bud…and to you too Elvis, wherever you are!

This month marks the beginning of the 11th year for Ross and Owen’s Pictures of the Month.  We wish all a happy and prosperous 2009 and are looking forward to once again sharing our monthly news and pictures with you.

Yesterday was quite a big day here in the DC area.  It was Inauguration Day. We got an extra day off of school this month because of this special day that only happens once every four years!

One other notable happening this month was that the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game.  As a result the Steelers will be going to the Super Bowl to play the Arizona Cardinals for the NFL Championship.  We are big Steeler fans, so we hope they win.  If they do, they will be the only team to have won six Super Bowls.

Unfortunately, we have some bad news to report this month.  Our Nana Rose passed away.  We will miss her a lot.  And we also want to extend our condolences to Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Brian, as Aunt Rosemary’s Uncle Lou left us this month too.

And, if you haven’t visited Pop-Pop’s genealogy site for a while, you might want to take a look there.  Pop-Pop recently updated the site and there are some new family tree entries and pictures.

See you next month...

Happy Holidays!

It’s that time again!  We are impatiently waiting for the Jolly Old Elf to jump down our chimney with a load of new toys for us.

And someone remember to put out the milk and cookies.  We want to make sure Santa has a treat waiting for him when he gets here!

November 2008

Happy Anniversary to Mom and Dad!

Ross aced his first middle school report card …three A’s and four A+’s!

November 6th was Mom and Dad’s 15th Wedding Anniversary.  They celebrated by spending a weekend away from us kids!  During their weekend, which they spent in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands, they took a tour of Falling Water.

On November 7th, 2008, Owen’s third grade class held a Veteran’s Day Program to honor those who served and those who continue to serve our country in the armed services.

During the program, uniforms donated by Owen’s Grandfather Olaf, a member of American Legion Post 180 in Vienna, VA, were used. owen081106The WWI Army uniform on the left belonged to Owen’s Great Grandfather, Ole. The WWII Navy uniform on the right belonged to Grandfather Olaf. The children on stage told stories about the history of the armed services, while Owen and other classmates played xylophones as background music.

vets081101At the conclusion of the program, the children sang each military service’s song. Veterans and active military personnel in the audience were asked to stand and be recognized for their service to our country during the song of their branch of the military.  Grandfather Olaf stood during “Anchors Aweigh.” Grandfather Harry, who is also a member of Post 180, stood during “Off We Go Into the Wild Blue Yonder.”

Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Brian took a trip to Germany last month to visit Sergeant Hammie.   They had a good time and took lots of neat pictures.

In a week or so, it will be time for turkey, pumpkin pie and all that other stuff that goes with Thanksgiving.  This year, we are celebrating Thanksgiving at home with Mom, Dad, the Grandparents, and the dogs (Gunny, Piggy and Captain).
