January 2017

Happy Birthday to Granny and Uncle Bud! And to you too Elvis, wherever you are!

January 2017 marks the beginning of the 19th year for Ross and Owen’s Pictures of the Month. We wish all a happy and prosperous 2017 and are looking forward to another year of sharing our monthly news and pictures with you.

This month’s news

  • We all took a field trip to the Saint John Paul II National Shrine.
  • JMU, which is both Mom and Dad’s Alma mater, won the NCAA Division I Football Championship Series.  They beat Youngstown State, which is Uncle Barry’s graduate school Alma mater, in the championship game.
  • Mom and Dad attended an Inauguration Celebration sponsored by the Conservative Ladies of Loudoun at the River Creek Country Club.  Mom, who is a member of the CLOC, was involved in a lot of the up-front planning and preparation for the event.
  • Ross now has wheels in Morgantown, WV.  He took Dad’s Subaru Forester back to WVU for the spring semester.  Dad replaced it with a “gently used” 2016 Subaru Forester.
  • Owen took time off from his gaming to take the SAT.

December 2016

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Happy Birthday Evan

The Good

Dad’s brothers and their families gathered at our house for our annual Christmas get-together.  We had a good time visiting with our aunts, uncles and cousins and going to lunch at the Lightfoot Restaurant.

Our next door neighbor has a 16-foot high Christmas Tree.  It makes our tallest tree look like a dwarf pine. Dad helped them string the lights and also lent them some Antique Christmas Lights from his massive collection.

Although practice sessions and weekly meets cut into his “Gamer Time,” Owen is on the THS Swim Team again this year.  Ross survived his Fall Semester Finals and will be heading back to Morgantown in January to finish his second year at WVU.

The Bad

We had a natural gas leak in our front yard earlier this month.  Thanks to the efforts of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department and Washington Gas, it’s been repaired so there is no longer any danger of our neighborhood becoming a blazing inferno.

The Ugly

Pop-Pop’s favorite team the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore RatBirds (aka Ravens) on Christmas Day to win the NFL AFC North Division title.  The Steelers didn’t play their best but Pop-Pop says good teams manage to win even when they “Play Ugly.”

November 2016

Happy 22nd Anniversary to Mom and Dad, Happy 39th Anniversary1 to Brian and Rosemary, Happy Birthday to Chris & Julia!

Supermoon, November 2016Owen started his “College Tour” this month.  His first stop on the tour was JMU, which just happens to be Mom and Dad’s Alma Mater.  JMU is in Harrisonburg, VA, whch just happens to be the home of Mossy Creek Fly Fishing too.  Dad and Owen took this opportunity to hire a guide and do some trout fishing after the JMU tour was over.  Mom went shopping.

Ross experienced two once in a lifetime events this month:

Mom and Dad made a trip to Morgantown, WV to pick up Ross for Thanksgiving break with the intent of going to the WVU – Oklahoma football game and returning the next day.  Unfortunately, the weather at Keysers Ridge was starting to turn nasty, so this became a same day round-trip.  Just as well as the weather in Morgantown was also cold and snowy…and the Mountaineers lost 56-28.

We had a great Thanksgiving with, as usual, way too much food.  Dad fried a turkey.  Mom’s BFF Alicia and her family joined us for dinner.  They brought a traditional roast turkey.  Needless to say, we had an ample supply of gobbler meat this year.

This month’s pictures includes some stragglers from Halloween that didn’t make it into the previous edition.  We’ve also included a picture of our newest cousin Bryce, who was born on October 28th.

1Uncle Brian and Aunt Rosemary actually celebrated their 39th wedding Anniversary on October 29th.  This should have been in last month’s news but our fact-checker (aka Pop-Pop) messed up.
